Job hunting sucks

11th October 2008 (07:40)
exhausted

current location: Home
current mood: exhausted
current song: Super Mario Galaxy

So far the job hunt has been pretty unsuccessful to say the least . . . that is until yesterday. But let me back up first.

I DO NOT want to work full time. Heck I don't want to work at all. I love staying home with Connor and when I was working I was on the verge of a mental breakdown between the sleepless nights and nine hours of stress. Now though things are a little different Connor is sleeping through most of the night (last night being an exception for some reason, he was up from 10:30-1:30) and financially we just cannot afford for me to stay home.

In this sucky economy (which I totally blame our government and greedy banks for thank you very much!) our home based business Geek4Hire is doing less then 1/3 of the business it was doing this same time last year. AND thanks to Mario's sucky schedule at work (asses) he has even less time to do it in So instead of shutting our doors we are passing jobs off to my Dad (who has been outta work for six months) and taking a small cut.

So here we are worrying about being able to make the rent and buy groceries and I am home all day. I decided to look for part time work hopefully in the same field I was in before Accounting and Payroll (since it pays ALOT better then retail) but if all else fails simply going back to work at Barnes and Noble which I loved when I worked there eight years ago.

I had been submitting my resume on every job web site imaginable including CraigsList and been getting no response other then from temp agencies (Man do they get testy when you turn them down!) for three weeks when I finally heard back from one of the first jobs on CL that I had applied for.

This job is an Accounting Assistant with a company called Axiom xCell which is a company that (in basic terms) ports applications to cell phones (yes Mario this includes games). And it is perfect: 25 hours per week, $17-$21/hour, casual environment (I get to wear JEANS), and less then five minutes from my house.

yep there is a but . . . BUT I do not have all the qualifications that they are looking for. I have the experience but not the qualifications.

yep another one . . . BUT my interview yesterday went really really well. The lady told me flat out that she loved me and after she sees how her next few interviews go she will take my application and try to sell it to the owner of the company as someone to hire anyways. The program manager who was in the interview as well really liked me too and was nodding agreement all along. So while this seems positive, I only have to hope that some poor slob with better qualifications doesn't come along and interview well either.

In the mean time I have been offered a job at Barnes and Noble (making 1/2 of what the other job is offering) and I go to orientation on Tuesday. Yippie for min wages . . .

In the mean time I keep applying and hearing nothing in return. So here is hoping that Axiom xCell sees the diamond that I am and hires me despite some very minor flaws.
